AEA provides structured access to skilled trades careers in Nova Scotia.
Youth Career Exploration Program
Through structured development initiatives, youth:
- Are paired with mentors
- Attend trade fairs and exhibitions
- Visit construction and work sites
- Participate in pre-employment sessions
- Receive PPE
- Gain clarity on trade pathways and post-secondary options
Pre-Apprenticeship Program
Designed for individuals completing technical training prior to apprenticeship.
AEA provides:
- Employer connections
- Apprenticeship registration support
- Transition mentorship
Pathways to Shipbuilding (Launched 2018)
In collaboration with Irving Shipbuilding Inc., Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), and the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA):
- 20 welding apprentices trained
- Many now employed
- Several achieved Red Seal certification
- 19 participants began metal fabrication diploma training in 2024
Direct Entry Trades Program
For individuals ready to enter the workplace directly.
AEA provides:
- Job-readiness preparation
- Workplace communication skills
- Employer connections
- Ongoing mentorship
This program addresses underrepresentation of people of African descent in construction trades.
Red Seal Certification Preparation
For experienced tradespeople (18,000+ hours):
- NOA assessment review
- Math and communication tutorials
- Weekly preparation sessions
- Test-taking strategies
- Exam scheduling support
