The Africadian Empowerment Academy’s “Crafting Our Legacy: Stories of Skilled Trades” Art Exhibition 2026

What an amazing day on Saturday, February 7th, 2026! We had a fantastic time at The Africadian Empowerment Academy’s “Crafting Our Legacy: Stories of Skilled Trades” Art Exhibition.

After 9 weekends of art lessons pairing retired skilled trades seniors of African descent with teenagers, they created stunning artworks that beautifully capture the seniors’ colourful stories of their work experiences and life lessons.

The classes, facilitated by the talented @IbeAnanaba, culminated in an incredible exhibition at the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia, where community members were amazed to learn that many of the artworks were created by first-time artists!

A huge thank you to our sponsor, the Nova Scotia Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care through the Age-Friendly Communities Grant Program, and to everyone who supported this inspiring project.#HalifaxBusiness #BlackHistoryMonth #africannovascotians #SeniorLiving #youthsintrade #akoma
